Ipswich Choral Society is keen to support local charities, both financially with fund-raising events and by raising awareness amongst ICS members and concert audiences. Our chosen charity recently has been Music in Our Bones and MIOB Singing Leader Tracy Sharp came along to an ICS rehearsal to receive a cheque from ICS Chair, Phil Powditch. The donation was money collected at various ICS events over the past couple of years.
Music In our Bones is a small Suffolk based charity (Charity no. 1166578) that believes singing with others offers a profound joyful sense of community, lifts spirits, and frees us all to feel more fully alive. Passionate that EVERYONE should have the chance to sing with others, MIOB’s mission is to help people overcome isolation, disadvantage, loneliness and lack of singing opportunity and confidence.
In fifteen years MIOB has created, and now sustaining, eight vibrant harmony
singing communities in accessible venues across Suffolk. They support family carers and people managing a wide variety of mental health, and long-term physical conditions. For more information, please visit their website musicinourbones.com.
Tracy explained to the choir what the donation would mean to MIOB.
“Your donation of over £600 was a truly wonderful gift. It will be used directly to offer people managing tough times a joyful musical life line. Our groups include those living with dementia, Parkinsons, M.S. strokes, and the anxiety, grief, depression and challenging caring roles so many of us face from time to time. The thank you attached includes photos and the words of people who sing with us. Our thanks is from us all.”
