Whether you are wanting to meet new people, dusting off your singing skills or excited to sing a varied music reportoire, you'll receive a very warm welcome from Ipswich Choral Society. We meet on Tuesday evenings at Northgate Arts Centre and enjoy singing a wide variety of choral music in the friendly company of like-minded singers. Rehearsals are led by ICS Music Director, Christopher Borrett with accompanist Mark Blatchly.
For anyone wondering if Ipswich Choral is the choir for them, we recommend coming along to a rehearsal, there is no pressure to join! The choir is open to all adults over the age of 18 and there is no audition process. Some experience of reading music may be helpful, however training materials are provided to members to help learn the music. Music hire is included within the annual membership fee.
Although attendance at all rehearsals may not be possible, it is expected that members will attend the majority of rehearsals for concerts in which they wish to perform. The success of the choir depends upon every member’s commitment to attending rehearsals, and to working on the pieces in between rehearsals. For concerts, there may be additional rehearsals scheduled if required.;
The Society usually performs three concerts a year as well as performing at Ipswich Music Day and other community events. We shpwcase our efforts in local venues such as Ipswich School, Ipswich Minster, Ipswich Corn Exchange and Snape Maltings Concert Hall. On occasion, some members of Ipswich Choral Society head further afield within the UK and abroad. Overseas tours have included performances in Austria, Belgium, France, Italy and Turkey.
